But didn't you appoint her as deputy, she asked with atilt of her head. She sighed and thought about Shardfrost again. No you can't think about him, she thought and pushed him out of her mind.

" well ... not exactly. the way beginning a clan works, you don't need to appoint anyone. mostly our ancestors decide that. " At last, that was how beginning WillowClan had worked. He honestly hadn't appointed Fawnstep, or 'appointed' the queens, or did anything with the medicine cats. It had just ... happened. It was the best way to explain it.

Littlefeather nodded her head. Oh I understand, she meowed quietly, but she actually didn't. She sighed and kept walking. How long have you been in the clans, she asked.

The gray-furred tom shrugged, feeling the slight breeze twist around his pelt. " a few moons? i don't know. maybe, say ... 6? i don't keep track. " Echostar felt that his guess was completely off, but then again, it was a guess. Not an estimate, an educated guess.

Well you've been here longer then me, she meowed with a small laugh. She looked into his pale eyes and smiled sweetly and looked away again.

He returned her smile. " how long have you been here? " Echostar knew enough about the rest of the cats, a bit about of their pasts, but not the exceptional details. This would be the first cat that he would ever bother to ask about their pasts. [sorry if it's short and doesn't make sense, i'm sort of distracted]

I've been here about two moons. I don't know, she meowed with a sigh. Her past wasn't a happy one. Everyone always thought oh the sweet little kitty-pet who lived the life of a weak cat and did nothing but be petted by Twolegs...her story was the opposite of that.....

Echostar slowed down a bit. " well ... where were you before? " She was the newest member, and he really didn't know anything about her other than what seemed to be her personality, and of course, her name and pelt color and everything basic.

Littlefeather's smile faded as he asked her that question she stopped and sighed. I guess I'll tell you.... As you know I was a kitty-pet, but my housefolks or Twolegs weren't nice. They never fed me and they kicked and beat me. They three little Twoleg kits that were even worse. They would pull my tail, my ears and at my pelt. The adults would just watch and laugh. When I was expecting my first litter, yes is my second litter, they always grabbed at my belly and when my kits were born the youngest of the three tried to take one of my new born kits. Then I attacked her. That my changed my laugh. The next day they took my kits beat me packed up their stuff and just left me to die. Then I met my old mate and became pregnant.... and here I am, she meowed. She hated telling the story. She felt tears in her eyes as she revealed the bald spots under her arms where they used to grab at her and beat her mostly. The fur would never grow back. She crouched down on the ground shakng and tears starting to run down her face. She didn't show that she was crying though.

Out of pure caring instincts, he laid his tail across the upset-looking she-cat. " i'm sorry ... " His voice was soft, scared, hurt, for her. He'd seen the Two-legs before. He'd met them before. They hadn't done much, one of them had tried to pick him up. But that was as far as he could remember, as far as the meeting, and his past. Two-legs were just ... ugh. Echostar's gray eyes showed worry and concern for Littlefeather as he crouched down next to her. " are you alright? "

Littlefeather looked into his eyes. I'm sorry I-I just d-don't like talking about it, she meowed standing up again. She wanted to forget her past as much as possible but with so many asking why she left the life of a kitty-pet and thinking that it was all ok...when it wasn't. She wipped the tears from her eyes and looked at the ground feeling ashamed. I'm just scared that someone's going to take them away from me again. I can't let that happen, she meowed this time looking up.

Echostar shook his head at the last statement. " that wouldn't happen. i'm here ... and so is the rest of willowclan. " He blinked once at her, his tail now swishing behind him, stirring up a few willow leaves littered on the green grass. Another one broke apart from the wavy branches, and swirled down slowly, landing near his paw.

Littlefeather sighed. I feel like its so hard to trust anyone, she meowed shaking her head slightly. I'm happy your here, she meowed walking towards him and rubbing against him sweetly then she realized her action and drew away quickly.

He offered her a slight smile after she drew away. Then he cleared his throat awkwardly. " you want to .. er, continue? " It probably sounded insensitve, after Littlefeather had just told him about her horrible past with Two-legs, and worrying about this litter also being stolen away. But he couldn't find anything else to say.

She nodded her head. Yes, she meowed awkwardly. She started walking again but kept looking back at him with warm sweet eyes. (ugh lazy....still)

Echostar followed after her, his tail dragging behind him, leaving a little trail in the grass. " so ... " He said a bit awkwardly, attempting at another conversation, and hoping that it wouldn't turn out like the last one. Hopefully not.

So...do you like being leader? she asked waiting for him catch up. She didn't want him to be a loner trailing behind her when it was just them two.

Soon he was alongside the sweet calico queen again. " well ... i gues ... " Echostar stared ahead, trying not to think about how unsuited he was for leading ... doubting himself about this. He tried convincing himself, telling himself that if he had been chosen by his warrior ancestors, then he was suited for it.

Littlefeather put her tail on his shoulder and smiled at him. Well I think you make a wonderful leader, she purred sweetly looking into his eyes sweetly.

Echostar smiled at her, a full smile at last. " thanks, littlefeather. i'm sure you'll be a wonderful mother to those kits of yours. " Twitching his whiskers in amusement, he pointed his light gray tail at her swollen stomach, carrying her second litter of kits that he would gladly protect with his life. Or, er, all his lives.
